Oh, I've been EAGERLY awaiting this animation to come to light. Now that I've seen it, I feel like something's missing. Wouldn't the animal fall toward as its center of balance shifted ahead of its shoulders? I thought the animal would kick off with its feet, then "jump" with its arms and start flapping or gliding or something.

Both models (this one and mine) require some form of flapping to stay aloft initially, so I don't know how well it would work with the giant pterosaurs.

Holy crap, Ville! Would you mind if I used that skeletal to base my life reconstruction on? The only good heterodontosaur skeletal I can ever find is that old hunched-over Heterodontosaurus from various non-academic sources.

well i'll admit i was quite excited by the find (other than 3D feathers are hard LOL so that makes my life more time consuming...), but i wasn't quite blown away.

if they'd had real theropod/bird type feathers yes total blow out of the water moment, but it is turning out to be structures quite similar to the psittacosaur's and not true feathers. so i was more thrilled i'd say... if you know what i mean

love the skeletal drawing again.

While the tapir shows some aquatic tendencies today, I suspect that it was probably a lot more aquatic in the past. Check out this video at:

The aquatic nature of many of the large subfossil primates on Madagascar has been argued. A review of this perspective can be found in the Elwyn Simons 1972 book 'Primate Evolution: an introduction to man's place in nature' and also in WCO Hills book Primates: Comparative anatomy and taxonomy.

I see noo particular cranial similarities between Tapirus and Megaladapis and dental similarities propably reflect similar folivorous diet since Tapirus is not really aquatic plant specialist but eats variety of plants, seeds, fruits and sometimes possibly even fish.

*Megaladapis remains are also *found with the remains of *crocodiles, fish, and *Hippopotamus while the remains of *other Madagascar primates are *extremely rare at these sites.

Could you cite papers that report that association? I would really like to check that out.
